Now the fun begins, and the first order of business is to choose the right floor plan that is consistent with the home you have pictured in your mind's eye _ and the property on which it will be built. Odds are you'll probably not open a magazine by chance and stumble upon a floor plan that has occupied your dreams all these years. Choosing a plan and refining the design to meet your needs will require some research, self_introspection and creative inspiration.
Colonial floor plans are elegant without being ostentatious. Moreover, they have an element of history attached to them. These floor plans come from the early American settlements of the East Coast. Colonial architecture ranged from New England to Georgia and, therefore, there are regional variations in style.
How much outdoor is good _ every home floor plan will include an outdoor area, perhaps an open porch, a swimming pool, a garden umbrella with seating etc. Making an assessment of how much time will be spent in these areas should be considered before making the plans. Imagine a swimming pool that is never used and looks unkempt and unclean! Outdoors need a lot of maintenance.
The façade is brick or wooden, with large windows. Ranch homes typically have an L_shaped hall which combines the living room and dining room into one area, with a hallway leading to the family room and a group of bedrooms all on one side of the house. A patio at the back with a glass sliding door leading to it is not unusual for a ranch house.
